1825

1825 is the song that inspired the project. Nick and Lucas use the life of DeWitt Clinton, working conditions and locations to create a surprisingly interesting song about the Erie Canal.

Intro:

(Nick)

1825

Mhm

1825

Ok

Chorus:

(Nick)

1825

The economy thrives

We made a canal

Transit revived

We called it Erie

It's our new path

We can see clearly

That it’s gonna last

(Lucas)

Lemme tell you 'bout my boy Dewitt Clinton

He was born in the town little Britain

Grew up with a mission, had a vision

Wasn’t just focused on the fishing

made the canal thoughtfully sailed it flawlessly

from Buffalo down to Albany yeah

it’s clear to see, the economy is rising rapidly

Verse:

(Nick)

363 miles that’s a long way

Canal way better than any railway

The profit is huge it’s amazing

The profit is huge and its raising

Albany to Buffalo

Utica and Oswego

(Lucas)

Industrial revolution

This could be the solution

Follow the Constitution

Put in the substitution

The workers they use their hands

It’s 50 cents per man

Dewitt put out his plan

Cutting across the land

DeWitt Clinton - The creator of the Erie Canal, the sixth governor of New York and a US Senator.

Buffalo - Buffalo marks the end of the Erie Canal.

50 cents - Workers were paid 50 cents a day for extreme labor during the construction of the canal.
